Multi-Agency Response to Fire on Lafayette Avenue

On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at 0623 hours, the Suffern Fire Department was dispatched for a report of smoke coming from a building across from 104 Lafayette Avenue. Chief of the Department Jeremy Kaufer arrived on scene within minutes of the dispatch and confirmed the working fire, with heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor rear of the building. Shortly thereafter, crews reported heavy fire on the 1st floor as well. Initial crews coordinated an aggressive interior attack and were able to hold the fire to the Halal Food Mart on the 1st floor and a large office space on the 2nd floor. The remaining occupancies sustained significant water and smoke damage. No injuries were reported.
